Once you've reached your final year in law school, you'll truly begin the transition from student to practitioner. California Western helps support this progress with a final step on your professional development timeline: the Clinical Externship Program.
This program provides students the opportunity to earn academic credit for doing legal work in non-profit agencies, private law offices, courts, corporations, or government agencies in their legal area of interest. Externships are available in San Diego, other parts of the U.S., and even abroad. Through this program, students take on actual lawyering responsibilities and challenges, which helps them make a smoother transition from law student to first-year attorney. Students often extern in the legal community where they hope to practice after they pass the bar exam, so the Clinical Externship Program is frequently the final piece to the puzzle before graduation.
